Term One Week Six
Our Vision and Mission
Vision Statement
With Jesus Christ as their role model, all children can and will achieve.
Mission Statement
Inspired by Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and in partnership with parents, our Parish and the wider community, we aim to impart a holistic education on all children in our school. We endeavour to live by the values of our school motto.
Learning, Understanding and Peace.
St Joseph’s is distinguished by a great sense of belonging, where each person is valued and where learning is enjoyable.
Prayer of the day

Ezekiel 18:21-28. If you, O Lord, laid bare our guilt, who could endure it? – Ps 129(130). Matthew 5:20-26.
Forgive and be reconciled
Today’s Gospel reading offers a practical as well as a spiritual reminder – forgive and be reconciled. Mercy is one of the highest forms of love we are able to give. Knowing that we also sin and are in need of forgiveness offers wisdom that will make us whole.
Meditate on these points. Whom do you need to forgive? Offer that forgiveness whether it has been asked for or whether you think it is deserved. What have you done to distance yourself from or to harm others? Reconcile and seek forgiveness. If you do these things then and only then will you be able to call yourself a disciple.
SCHOOL NEWS
Church and Playground
The Cross on the roof of the Church (School end), will be removed and the roof repaired. Scaffolding will be erected on the South East corner of the Church. The scaffolding will remain for the duration of the repair work which is anticipated to take approximately four weeks.
St Joseph’s Day
St Columba’s will host St Joseph’s Day celebrations this year Wednesday 19th March. Children will arrive at school as usual. They will travel to Yeoval by bus and return to school in time for buses and pick ups.
All information regarding St Joseph’s Day was sent home via COMPASS this week. Please check COMPASS, payment for lunch and consent for your child/children to attend is to be done through COMPASS.
Primary Assembly
Years Three, Four, Five and Six will host their first assembly of the year, next Thursday, 20th March at 2:30pm in the school hall. All parents, families and friends are invited to attend.
Sheahan Production
Those students in Year Five and Six not attending the Winter Sports Trials on Friday, 28th March will attend the James Sheahan Production of Bring it on.
‘Bring It On- The Musical’ tells the story of Campbell, cheer-royalty at Truman High School, in her senior year, which she hopes will prove to be the most cheertastic. All is looking well as she is named captain of the squad! But, an unexpected redistricting has forced her to spend her final year of high school at the neighbouring Jackson High School. Despite having the deck stacked against her, Campbell befriends the school' dance crew. Together with their headstrong and hardworking leader, Danielle, they form a powerhouse squad for the ultimate competition — the National Championships.
Permission forms and information will be sent home via COMPASS next week.
Pupil Free Day
Reminder: Wednesday, 26th March is a Pupil Free day. Staff will attend a Professional Development day focusing on the new English Syllabus.
Uniform Reminder
Children must wear a school hat during Terms One and Four. Unfortunately there are a number of children who do not bring their hats to school. Any children without school hats must remain in the shade under the ‘No Hat, No Play’ policy. Please ensure your children have a school hat to wear to school.

FROM THE REC
Did you know that the Church follows different Liturgical Seasons?
Each season is marked by a specific colour, which you can see in churches and classroom prayer spaces, particularly in the vestments worn by the priest.
We are currently in the season of Lent, represented by the colour purple. Throughout our school and church, you will notice purple as a symbol of reflection, repentance, and preparation for Easter. Our new office prayer space also reflects this season, featuring the colour purple alongside our beautiful Acts of Service hand mural, created by students during our Wellness Week rotations.

Lenten Journey Reminder
We are currently on our Lenten journey, a time of preparation for Easter, where we are called to reflect and grow spiritually. As a school community, we can set small Lenten goals in the areas of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, such as:
- Saying a prayer together each morning or evening.
- Giving up a small comfort to grow in discipline.
- Donating to a charity or helping someone in need.
A reminder that our Project Compassion fundraising page remains open, and each classroom is competing to raise the most funds for this important cause during Lent. Let’s continue to give generously and make a difference!
Upcoming Masses:
- Week 7: No Mass due to St Joseph's Day in Yeoval
- Week 8: No Mass due to Pupil Free Day
